This recipe is made from simple ingredients you can find at your local grocery store!
- Cream Cheese: A block of cream cheese forms the base of this creamy dip. You can sub this with Neufchâtel cheese, or even fat-free cream cheese if you’re looking to save on calories.
- Sour Cream: This, along with the cream cheese, gives this dip its consistency. You can sub with low-fat sour cream.
- Chipped (or Dried) Beef: This is a form of beef jerky in a can. You can find this in the canned meats or deli section of your grocery stores. Two of the most commonare Armor and Buddig brand.

- Worcestershire Sauce: This adds a lovely bit of umami to this old-school party appetizer. You can sub with coconut aminos or even soy sauce!
Making this chipped beef dip recipe
Step 1 | Chop the Beef
Lay your beef out on the cutting board. Cut it into 1/2 inch thin strips one way, then cut into 1/2 inch strips the other way. You’ll end up with small pieces like this:
Step 2 | Mix It Up
In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and beef squares. It is important that your cream cheese be softened, or you will have a hard time getting that creamy consistency.
Step 3 | Serve and Enjoy!
I like to garnish my dip with chopped green onions. You can serve this dip in a dip bowl or a bread bowl. This dip pairs well with fresh vegetables like cucumbers, sliced bell peppers, tomatoes, celery sticks, or carrots. You can also use bagel chips — in fact, any kind of crackers make perfect dippers!
Variations
You can add or sub a few ingredients to make variations on the basic recipe.
- Hot Chipped Beef Dip: Add one chopped jalapeño pepper to the dip to bring the spicy heat!
- Change the Flavor Profile: You can add dill weed, onion powder, or beau monde seasoning to the cream cheese mixture to change the flavor profile.
- Add Mix-Ins: Add chopped green peppers or red pepper or other chopped fresh veggies!
- Chipped Beef Cheese Ball: Add 1 cup cheddar cheese to the dip, then form it into a ball and wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve.
