What’s in crockpot beef tips?
These crockpot beef tips are made from simple ingredients you may already have in your pantry. If not, they’re things you can find in just about any grocery store.

- Beef Tips or Beef Stew Meat: Since we’re slow cooking this recipe, you can use either true beef tips or beef stew meat. You can also cut your own beef tips from a chuck roast, top sirloin roast, or other cuts of meat!
- Cream of Mushroom Soup: You will need 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup. You can sub this for cream of golden mushroom or cream of onion for a different flavor!
- Brown Gravy Mix: You will use just the gravy mix here, so don’t bother preparing the gravy beforehand!
Making homemade beef tips and gravy
Optional Step | Brown the Beef
You don’t have to do this, but I like to brown my beef before I throw it in the crockpot. It cuts down on grease and makes the meat look prettier. You can also throw in a little seasoning, like garlic powder or onion powder when you brown the meat, just for that little burst of extra flavor!
However, if you’re short on time, you can cut this step and still get a delicious dinner!
Step 1 | Mix the gravy
In a small bowl, combine the gravy packet and the cans of soup. Whisk them together until smooth. This is going to become your gravy!

Step 2 | Combine and Cook
Place your stew beef/beef tips in the crockpot, then pour the gravy mixture over the top.

Place the lid on the slow cooker and let the meat cook for 2-3 hours on high, or 4-5 hours on low heat. You’ll know it’s done when the steak bites are fork tender. Fork tender is mouth tender, after all!
Step 3 | Enjoy!
Stir your beef tips before stirring to spread that gravy goodness around.
These crockpot beef tips are delicious served over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Add a steamed veggie or side salad to make an easy meal. Our family favorite is green beans!

Variations
This 3-ingredient recipe is good on it’s own, but you can add and sub a few things to really make the recipe yours!
- Sub onion soup mix: Sub dry onion soup mix for the brown gravy for a different take!
- Add mushrooms: Add chopped mushrooms to the gravy in the last hour of slow cooking, This makes a delcious mushroom gravy!
- Add pepperoncinis (Mississippi style): Ever had Mississippi pot roast? You can make a beef tips version by adding sliced pepperoncinis to the gravy mixture at the beginning of the cooking time. The pepperoncini peppers give this recipe a nice kick!
