You want to know a secret? Your instant pot is the best way to cook oatmeal if you want the perfect texture! It’s my favorite way to make oatmeal because this recipe gives you creamy texture, with a delicious flavor.
Know what else is great about this method? You can make a large batch of instant pot oatmeal with only 2 minutes of hands-on time. This is the easiest way to have a healthy breakfast on busy mornings!
What’s in 3-ingredient creamy oatmeal?
Simple ingredients make simple and wholesome goodness with this easy recipe. Here’s the list:

- Steel Cut Oats: You can make this with old-fashioned oats as well. Do NOT sub instant oats for this ingredient. They will make a gloopy, mushy mess.
- Almond Milk: Any non-dairy milk will work here. Cow milk tends to scald and burn to the bottom of the pot, which will often throw up a burn message on your instant pot and ruin your oats. If you don’t have plant-based milk, you can simply use extra water. Your oats will be a little less creamy.
- Water
Making the perfect oatmeal
Step 1 | Combine
In the instant pot, add your oats, water, and milk. Give it a good stir to combine.
Step 2 | Cook
Lock the lid of the instant pot in place and set the vent to “sealing.”
Set the pot to cook for 10 minutes on high pressure.
It will take your pot 5-10 minutes to build to pressure, then the pot will start counting down from ten.
When it finishes, do a quick release. If you don’t know how to quick release, this video explains it really well!

Step 3 | Enjoy!
You can fluffy your oats with a fork, then spoon them into a bowl and top with your favorite toppings! I love fresh berries and nuts with a drizzle of honey or a pinch of brown sugar. You can also swirl in some peanut butter or almond butter, drizzle with maple syrup, top with any fresh fruit, add chocolate chips, sprinkle with pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon, or add a splash of milk. Coconut milk, oat milk, soy milk, or even a splash of cream work well!

Steel Cut Oats vs Old Fashioned Oats
Steel-cut oats and old-fashioned oats start from the same oat groat (which is what you get when you grow oats), but they take totally different paths! Steel-cut oats get chopped up into little pieces using steel blades, making them super chewy and needing extra time to cook, while old-fashioned oats are steamed and rolled flat, so they cook up soft and fast.

FAQs
Yes, but keep in mind that almond milk may cause the oatmeal to be a bit creamier and slightly thicker. If using all almond milk, you may need to stir well after cooking to ensure a smooth consistency.
Go for it! Just make sure not to fill your Instant Pot past the halfway mark, as oats expand while cooking. The cooking time stays the same.
Store leftover oatmeal in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Reheat with a splash of almond milk or water in the microwave or on the stovetop until creamy again.
