What’s in tasty taco dip?
This flavorful dip is made from simple ingredients that are easy to find at your local grocery store.
- Cream Cheese: You’ll need an 8oz block of cream cheese at room temperature. You can use reduced fat cream cheese or Neufchâtel cheese if you’d like to save on calories or fat.
- Taco Seasoning Mix: This gives taco dip that signature flavor. You need one 1 oz package or 3 tbsp of seasoning.
- Rotel Tomatoes: You can control the heat level of the dip by choosing medium or hot Rotel. You can also keep it low-key with original!
- Grated Cheese: I use a mexican cheese mixture, but you can use plain old cheddar cheese or monterey jack in this.
Making creamy taco dip
Step 1 | Combine
In your slow cooker, combine the cream cheese, taco seasoning, undrained Rotel tomatoes, and grated cheese.
Step 2 | Heat
Let the dip cook on low for 2-3 hours. Stir it a few times during the cooking time to mix it together and make sure the edges don’t brown.
Step 3 | Enjoy!
Serve the dip warm — I usually just leave it in the crockpot on warm. You can serve this plain, or garnished with chopped green onions, black olives, a dollop of sour cream, chopped red onions or other favorite taco toppings. For dipping, consider tortilla chips, corn chips, or pita chips. You can also use celery sticks or bell pepper slices for a healthier option!
Variations
You can add to this cream cheese taco dip base recipe or make some substitutions to create a different version of this dip.
- Taco Bean Dip: Replace the cream cheese with a can of refried beans to create a bean dip version.
- Ground Beef Taco Dip: Brown a pound of ground beef or ground turkey, then add the taco seasoning to the cooked meat. Add the taco meat to the crockpot and heat the dip just like normal.
- Cold Taco Dip: Replace the cream cheese with 8 oz of sour cream to create a cold dip that doesn’t require constant heating during your party.
