Chocolate peanut butter eggs are one of the easiest homemade candies you can make — beginners, this one’s for you! With a creamy peanut butter center and a smooth chocolate coating, these little easter eggs are rich, sweet, and completely irresistible. They’re a pretty close dupe for Reese’s peanut butter eggs.
I think one of the bigger surprises I’ve had when researching recipes for this blog is how easy it is to make peanut butter chocolate candy. I had no idea you could make it from three simple ingredients from the pantry!
What’s in Homemade Peanut Butter Eggs?

- Peanut Butter: Creamy peanut butter is the best for this. I do not recommend using crunchy peanut butter at all — the peanut butter filling does not come together well. You can use natural peanut butter, but make sure it’s well stirred. You can also sub with sunflower seed butter or almond butter, although the flavor will be very different.
- Powdered Sugar: This is also called icing sugar or confectioner’s sugar. Do NOT sub this with granulated or coconut sugar unless you want grainy filling.
- Chocolate Chips: You can use any type of chocolate chip you’d like as long as it will melt. Reese’s eggs use milk chocolate, but I actually prefer this with dark chocolate chips. It’s totally up to you!

If the peanut butter mixture feels too sticky or soft to shape, add a little more powdered sugar until it becomes a dough-like consistency. Chilling the shaped eggs in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes before dipping them in chocolate also helps them hold their shape.
They can be stored at room temperature for a day or two, but they last longer in the refrigerator. Keep them in an airtight container and they’ll stay fresh for up to a week.
Chocolate chips can sometimes melt thick. If needed, stir in a small amount of coconut oil or vegetable shortening to thin the melted chocolate and make dipping easier.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups peanut butter
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 12 oz chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the peanut butter and powdered sugar until it forms a dough.
- Form the dough into egg shapes. You should get about 18 eggs from this recipe.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips by microwaving in 30 second bursts and stirring in between.
- Dip the eggs into the chocolate and use a fork to ensure that they are completely coated in chocolate.
- Remove the dipped eggs and place them on a parchment or wax paper lined baking sheet, or on a wire rack. Allow them to set for 1-2 hours, or 30 minutes in the fridge.
- Once the eggs are set, you can decorate them and serve!
