Creamy fudge kind of rocks, and when it’s homemade, it’s even better! This red velvet fudge recipe uses simple ingredients and about 15 minutes of hands-on time to give you the perfect treat for the holiday season. Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day, Christmas, or the 4th of July, this decadent treat is a go-to choice!

What’s in easy red velvet fudge? 

You can make creamy, dreamy fudge with just a handful of ingredients:

  • White Chocolate: I used a white chocolate baking bar, but you can use white chocolate chips. If it’s white chocolate and it will melt, you’re in business!
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: You can use the full-fat or reduced fat version of this. There are non-dairy versions if you’re looking to cut dairy or keep vegan. 
  • Red Velvet Cake Mix: You can use any brand of this. You will not use the full bag. Uncooked cake mix can carry some bacteria, so if you’d like to make it safe beforehand, follow these instructions (cake mix works just like flour!). 

​Making creamy red velvet fudge

Step 1 
Start by melting your chocolate in a large microwave-safe bowl. Melt by microwaving the chocolate for 30 second intervals, then stirring in between until the chocolate is completely melted.

Next, mix in the red velvet cake mix and the sweetened condensed milk. The chocolate mixture will get thick very quickly. Continue stirring until everything is mixed in smoothly.

Line a 9×9 square pan with parchment paper or wax paper. Pour the homemade fudge into the prepared pan and smooth it out with a spatula. Cover with plastic wrap and let it set on the counter for several hours. To speed up setting time, you can place it in the fridge for 1-2 hours.

Remove the fudge from the lined pan and cut it into small squares using a butter knife. I cut mine into 1 inch squares and got 36 pieces from the recipe. 

Variations

You can make some simple adjustments to make this easy recipe your own!

  • Change the chocolate: You can make this recipe using semi-sweet chocolate chips in place of the white chocolate. You can also do half-and-half: a combination of white chocolate and semi-sweet. The red will not be as pronounced in this variation, but the chocolate flavor is to die for!
  • Change the cake mix: You can actually make just about any flavor if you simply switch the cake mix. Obviously, this is no longer red velvet fudge, but go ahead and play around. You may find your new favorite thing!
  • Add some mix-ins: You can mix in chocolate chips, festive sprinkles, mini marshmallows, or nuts, or even drizzle this fudge with some melted almond bark or chocolate. You can also dust this with cocoa powder or powdred sugar. 

FAQs

Can I make this fudge without sweetened condensed milk?

Sweetened condensed milk is what binds everything together and gives the fudge its smooth, rich texture, so there isn’t a great substitute here. Using evaporated milk or regular milk won’t set the same way.

Can I add toppings or mix-ins?

Definitely! Mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, or even a swirl of cream cheese frosting make this fudge feel extra special. Just make sure add-ins are stirred in right before spreading the fudge into your pan.

How should I store red velvet fudge?

Store your fudge in an airtight container in the fridge. It stays fresh for up to a week. If you want to stack pieces, place a little sheet of parchment or wax paper between the layers to keep them from sticking.

  • Add cake mix and condensed milk and stir until mixture is smooth.
  • Line a 9×9 square pan with parchment or wax paper. Pour the fudge into the lined pan and smooth with a spatula.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and leave on the counter to set for 4-5 hours. To speed up setting time, place in fridge for 1-2 hours.
  • Remove fudge from pan and cut into 1" squares.
