This crowd pleaser spinach dip recipe is the perfect appetizer. It works for Super Bowl game day, and is elevated enough for a fancier dinner party. It’s one of those great recipes that tastes so good it fits just about anywhere!
What’s in 3-ingredient spinach artichoke dip?
The ingredient list for this recipe is short, but the flavor isn’t! These simple ingredients are cheap and easy to get at your local grocery store.
- Frozen Chopped Spinach: You will need 10 oz of frozen spinach. If you’d like to use fresh spinach, you can. You will need about 1 1/2 lbs of fresh spinach. You will need to chop and steam it before starting.
- Marinated Artichoke Hearts: The extra flavor from the marinade makes these perfect! You’ll need a 13 oz jar.
- Garlic and Herb Cream Cheese: Philadelphia flavored cream cheeses are a fantastic short cut when making party dips! I love the garlic and herb flavor in this recipe, but you can use chive and onion or even just a plain block of cream cheese with spices added. You need about 15 oz of cream cheese. If you’re using plain cream cheese, you will need to add some minced fresh garlic or garlic powder and salt for best flavor.
Making spinach artichoke dip
Step 1 | Steam your Spinach
Start by steaming your spinach. If you’re using frozen, follow the instructions on the package. If you’re using fresh, you can use any of these methods.
Step 2 | Drain and Chop Artichokes
While your spinach is steaming, you can drain your artichoke hearts in a colander. Once you’ve drained the excess liquid, chop your hearts into small pieces. This is the size they will be in the final dip, so consider that as you cut them.
Step 3 | Mix Ingredients
In a large bowl, mix your steamed spinach, chopped artichokes, and your cream cheese. This works best if your cream cheese is softened and at room temperature when you try to mix it, otherwise you’ll have to get out the elbow grease!
Mix all the ingredients until the cream cheese is completely incorporated.
Step 4 | Bake
Next, put your dip mixture into a baking dish and place in the oven at 350° for 25-30 minutes. The top should be touched with golden brown, and the dip should have a soft and creamy texture when stirred.
Step 5 | Enjoy!
Enjoy this dip warm with a variety of your favorite dippers. Mine is pita chips, which is what is in the pictures, but you can use baguette slices, sliced fresh veggies, or tortilla chips! You can also garnish this with a little parmesan cheese, some grated mozzarella cheese, red pepper flakes, a drizzle of olive oil, or chopped parsley.
Variations
If you’re not interested in baking your dip, I’ve got good news! You can also make this hot spinach artichoke dip recipe on the stovetop or in the crockpot. Here’s how:
- Stovetop Spinach Artichoke Dip: Instead of mixing ingredients in a large bowl, mix them in a saucepan, then heat over medium heat while stirring until the cream cheese has melted and the dip is easy to scoop.
- Crockpot Spinach Artichoke Dip: Once your ingredients are mixed, place them in a slow cooker. Leave the crockpot to cook on low for 2-3 hours, or until the ingredients are creamy. Stir the dip and serve warm!
