Cost: $10.00

Ingredients

  • 8 oz tub Cool Whip, thawed
  • 24 oz chocolate chips, divided
  • 1/2 tbsp shortening

Instructions

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 3/4 cup chocolate chips. Microwave in 30 second burts, stirring between, until chocolate is fully melted.
  • Line a 9x9 baking dish with parchment paper. Pour the melted chocolate into the bottom of the prepared dish and spread it smoothly to cover the entire dish bottom. Place the dish in the freezer.
  • Reserve 3/4 cup chocolate chips. In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the remaining chips in the microwave. Spread the melted chocolate over the nougat layer. Place the dish in the freezer.
  • Once all layers have frozen solid (about an hour), remove from freezer. Lift parchment paper and bars from pan. Use a knife to cut the bars into 1x1 inch squares. See notes for tips on getting cleaner cuts.
  • Store in the fridge or freezer. Bars are best used within 3 days.

Notes

To get a cleaner cut: Let the frozen candy sit at room temperature for a few minutes before cutting. A large, sharp knife works best. You can also warm the knife under hot water, dry it completely, and then slice the candy.
